lois_wattis4My name is Lois Wattis and I am registered with the Queensland Nursing & Midwifery Council as a Comprehensive Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM). I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a member and Fellow of the Australian College of Midwives (FACM).

I provide a professional in-home service to women and their partners as they make their transition to parenthood, from “birthjourney to babymoon”. I support and nurture parents’ intuitive knowledge about their baby, offering practical guidance as parenting skills develop, facilitating breastfeeding, and assisting a smooth transition to family life. I am committed to offering women the choice of personalised care which is focused on their individual needs and family structure.

As a mother and grandmother, I provide parents with experienced sensitive support and understanding. My Lactation Consultancy practice is based on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia.

birthjourneyThe “Babymoon” refers to the early weeks following baby’s birth, when new parents focus on their transition to family life. Babymoon home visits nurture both mother and baby by enhancing breastfeeding skill development, problem solving, as well as supporting confident mothercrafting.

The cost of a home consultation starts at $150 and private health fund rebates may apply. A referral from a medical practitioner is not required.

New Baby 101

As a Midwife, Lactation Consultant, Mother and Grandmother I am constantly reminded that new parents need an “Owners Manual” to take with them as they walk out of the hospital carrying their newborn home. New parents have so much to learn in such a short time, and every parent wants to do everything right – which no one can, of course.

In my work with new parents someone says to me almost every day “so you’re coming home with us, right?” or words to that effect. Even the most capable, organised parents who are well prepared for their new roles realise there is so much to learn, and they often feel totally overwhelmed by their new responsibilities.

I recognised there is a need for a concise, easy-to-read reliable resource for new parents who are negotiating this steep learning curve. I know there isn’t much time for reading and this generation of parents expect instant information via the internet and/or their phone. This can also be a time of information overload so parents need to be discerning about advice received from well-meaning others and the internet. Remember, if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right! Parents need to trust their own instincts as they already know their baby better than anyone else.

So, new parents, here is your practical guide – as a book available from all book retailers, or an eBook you can download here to help you through the first few months of your parenting journey. These early weeks are precious even though they pass in a blur of elation and sleep deprivation. You can trust the information provided in New Baby 101 is based on the best evidence and research and my vast practical experience helping new parents. New Baby 101 will enable you to enjoy your babymoon – the first few months of your life with your new baby. Congratulations!
